The second floor of the school
building is about 80% complete. Outstanding at the moment is: grinding and
polishing the terrazzo floor, putting finishing touches to the balustrades,
and painting. These cannot be completed while school is in session and so
have been deferred until school vacation. The floor is, however, in use.
All 6 classrooms are being used as well as 3 offices and the large room that
is serving as a teacher's lounge. This floor has been a great blessing to
the school, as enrollment has increased significantly. There is no way we
could have accommodated all the new students without the extra space
provided by the second floor.
Since school reopened on May
7th, more and more parents have been enrolling their children. This is very
unusual for this time of the year. Ghana has 3 school terms: the first from
the middle of September to the middle of December, the second from the
middle of January to the middle of April, and the third from the second week
of May to the second week of August. Enrollment is normally done before the
academic year begins in September. In a few cases, parents will enroll
before the second term begins. Rarely is enrollment done before the third
term when the school year is almost coming to an end; however, as already
said, many have been enrolled at Hope Christian Academy this third term. A
year ago by this time, we were praying and hoping that our enrollment would
hit 300 students. Today, we have a record high enrollment of 410 students.
This is an amazing opportunity to educate over 400 children every day and
nurture them in the fear of the Lord. Pray with us that we will excel in
this God-given responsibility.
On June 1st, the managers and
supervisors of Village of Hope attended a one-day seminar on the principles
of Christian leadership. This all-day seminar was taught by Bob Chisholm, a
minister of the Prestoncrest Church of Christ in Dallas, TX, USA. We were
blessed by the insightful lessons presented by Uncle Bob (as he is
affectionately called by the children of the Village of Hope). We hope, with
God's help, we will be better Christian leaders as we serve our diverse
community.
Servant of the LORD,
Fred Asare
