I read the story of a little boy riding on a train.  He was a bit pale and it was obvious to the man sitting across from him that the boy was heavy hearted.  The small boy was staring longingly at a mother and her several children seated several seats down the aisle.  They were giggling merrily as they were having something to eat, so the man thought maybe the boy might be hungry and asked him as much.  With head bent he shakes it back and forth ever so slightly, telling the man he has some food, but is not really hungry.  "I'm a little bit lonely," he says, fighting back the tears.  Then he looks again at the children down the aisle.  "There's lots of children over there," he nods toward the family, "and they've got their mother."

"And you've lost yours, have you?"

A quiet "Yes," barely escapes his quivering lips.  He then tells the man he's on his way to live with an uncle he's never met.  While the train was stopped a few towns back, a lady had given the boy some sandwiches and hung a card around his neck.  She told him to show it one of the ladies on the train, but he hadn't found the courage to do it yet.  "If you like, you can read it," and he pulls it from inside his coat.  His name, George, and address were there, then below them was written, "Whosoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward."

His heart touched, the man goes to the woman telling her about George.  With tender arms the woman gathers George to her and speaks gently to him as she guides him to be seated with her and her children.

Children are special to the Lord and He calls on us to be among those who give "even a cup of cold water."

We have added many new children to the Village of Hope - more than 40 - and we are struggling to meet our monthly obligations.  All of these children NEED a cup of cold water.

Please email or call ¡ 501-278-5887 ¡ for a copy of our Ghana West Africa Missions DVD.  Ask your Elders/Missions Committee to look at it and see if it doesn't touch their hearts so that they might either:

  • Allow the congregation to see it so they might make a special offering for the Village of Hope, or
  • Make a special gift from the Missions/General budget for the Village of Hope, or
  • Add the Village of Hope to their budget

Also, we're looking for 1,000 people to give $10.00 monthly for the Village of Hope.

Will you be one of those 1,000?

Thank you,

Josiah Tilton
