Bismark
Kyei Obeng is one of the four children of Nicholas Kyei Obeng and
Janet Ackom. The former was a worker at the Stool Land
Administration at Agona Swedru. The couple lived together until the
mother developed a mental problem and was taken away to live with
her mother for treatment at Dunkwa-on-Offin. All the children and
their father stayed at Agona Swedru with the exception of their two
year-old brother who went with the mother.
Unexpectedly,
after a short illness of jaundice, the father died and the children
had no one to care for them. The Assisim church therefore divided
the children among members to care for them in the short term. A few
weeks after Nicholas’ death, the Assisim Minister, (who was catering
for the oldest of the children, Beatrice), made a request to the
Village of Hope for the admission of the children into residence to
ensure a meaningful future in terms of training and education.
However, in
view of her age and lack of enough space, Beatrice, the oldest child
could not be admitted. Thus, only Bismark and his sister Stella
were admitted with the hope of helping Beatrice and the younger
brother still living with his mother in any way possible. |
